The Marine Corps Forces Central Command, which is in charge of the service’s operations in an increasingly unstable Middle East that is currently roiled by last month’s surprise attack on Israel by Hamas, announced on Wednesday that it would be canceling its annual Marine Corps ball due to “unforeseen operational commitments and the nature of our current mission.” The Middle East is currently roiled by the surprise attack by Hamas on Israel last month.

This decision was made as a result of “unexpected operational commitments and the nature of our current mission.” As soon as the news broke, a spokeswoman for the command, which is also known as MARCENT, informed Military.com that the decision to cancel the ball was a “prudent measure,” taking into consideration the scenario that is developing in Israel.

The name of the quick reaction force that is now stationed in the area is the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, which is also abbreviated as the 26th MEU. Since the beginning of the previous month, the unit has not been provided with a defined objective, and according to the spokesperson for MARCENT, Captain Joe Wright, the command’s posture in the Middle East has not changed in any way at all.
