In his early years, he showed great dedication to serving his country and community. On January 2, 1951, he volunteered for service in the United States Air Force, a decision that reflected his strong sense of duty and patriotism.

On March 31, 1951, Aldrew married the love of his life, Marjorie L. Jons, and together they embarked on a journey filled with love, family, and community service. His commitment to his family, country, and fellow citizens was truly remarkable. Aldrew’s service in the Air Force lasted until November 2, 1953, when he was honorably discharged. After returning home, he and Marjorie chose to settle down on a farm near Butte.

Nebraska, before eventually moving to the family farm located south of Bonesteel, South Dakota. Farm life became a part of his identity, and his dedication to agriculture ran deep. Throughout his life, Aldrew actively contributed to various organizations and boards. He served on the Bonesteel School Board, Cenex, Pleasant Valley Township, Roy Garringer Legion Post #36, and Zion Lutheran Church in Bonesteel.

In recognition of his unwavering commitment, Aldrew was honored as the District 8 Legionnaire of the Year in June 2004. His dedication to the Bonesteel Veterans Memorial project was also highly praised by the Bonesteel American Legion. While he was passionate about his community and country, Aldrew also valued time spent with his loved ones. In December 1991, Aldrew and Marjorie decided to leave the family farm and settle in Bonesteel. They continued to reside there until February 2022, when Aldrew’s health necessitated a move to a nursing home in Butte, Nebraska. Aldrew’s life was a testament to his strong sense of duty, love for family and friends, and dedication to community service.
